becky's new career
can you imagine? well, i'm exaggerating a little... it's actually a really great story that i was really excited about! if you weren't aware, i've been looking for an internship (probably not as dilligently as i should have been... but it's still been really frustrating cuz there have been so many other things going on) so, i started volunteering for the american heart association. before you think i sound important, i don't do anything big and i haven't been doing it for that long. i just sit at a table with all these papers to hand out and look professional while pretending to be able to answer any question about heart disease and stroke... and it's fun.
well, they asked me to set up a booth at CR England. i had no idea at all what that was until i got there. when i realized that it was a trucking company, and that people working as truckers have some interesting habits, i thought to myself, i would love to do an internship somehwere like this where i could create a wellness program for the employees. weirdy, i know. but for some reason it sounded soooo stinking cool to me! i started talking to some people around me and it turned out that they were wanting an intern just as badly as i wanted an internship. so they want me (ya, just me, no other public health person above me) to create a program and implement health classes as well as a smoking cessation class. it'll be so great! and the greatest part is that it all just fell right into my lap!
here's one more reason this is cool. the other day i went back to volunteer at the health fair and they had a challenge going on outside where four people had to pull a semi.
